Practical Course Prof. Dr. Gabriele Diekert

Anoxic microbial degradation of natural products and xenobiotics
March, 22nd - 24th, 2011

Organizer: Dr. Torsten Schubert and Dr. Sandra Studenik

Max. number of participants: 6

Theme of the workshop:
The course presents the recent theoretical issues and experimental techniques on the investigation of anaerobic microbial degradation processes. Using the examples of tetrachloroethene reductive dehalogenation by Sulfurospirillum multivorans and the cleavage of phenyl methyl ethers by Acetobacterium dehalogenans anaerobic cultivation, determination of metabolites, and enzyme activity measurements will be conducted. In addition the molecular biology of both enzymatic reactions will be illustrated and highlighted experimentally.

Location: Friedrich-Schiller-University, Dept. of Applied and Ecological Microbiology, Philosophenweg 12
